Green Bay, WI – On June 6, the Brown County District
Attorney’s office charged Roni Coonen-Anderson of Hobart with felony murder by
arson to a building and arson. WBAY
said this charge comes almost one year after that fire killed 89 year old
Harold Ambrosious.
Prosecutor’s also charged Coonen-Anderson with arson for a
separate fire in October of 2015 according to Fox
11.
The motive behind both fires is unknown.
NBC
26 said Coonen-Anderson was released on a $100,000 bond. She is due back in
court on Friday.
Explanation of Story Choice
Explanation of Story Choice
I chose to
brief this story because it has nearly all the elements of news worthiness.
First, it has immediacy; Coonen-Anderson was just charged on Monday. It also has
proximity, because the crime was committed in Hobart, WI, and she was charged
in Green Bay, WI. It has novelty, since arson that leads to death is relatively
uncommon in our area. It has conflict, because Coonen-Anderson is beginning a
court battle. Finally it has emotion, because the fire that Coonen-Anderson was
charged with setting killed an 89 year old man. His family, friends, and
community will want justice for his untimely death.

ReplyDeleteYour three stories for the week were absolutely breaking news. Your written briefs are informing, concise, and technically sound. They are very well polished and embody the inverted pyramid. Your writing for all three weeks so far has been very professional. Look forward to more stories from you!
Thank you for your comment Alexander!
DeleteI like to get these stories done early in the week, and sometimes that makes it difficult to find new stories. You can always find ones from the previous week that have been updated, but I love finding the breaking news. I'm glad you noticed.
Thanks again,
Sam
This story made me sick. I am glad she is finally being charged! Hobart is having a rough month. My local news story was focused on a double homicide. This has been a very tragic time for the community, but thankfully people are being held accountable for their actions.
ReplyDeleteSamantha,
ReplyDeleteThis was a really good story choice. I had actually forgotten all about this case until I read your brief. A testament to how well you organized the information and presented the relevant facts is that I know am once again fully informed about what happened in the initial story.
Great work!
The information is not accurate. She was not released on bond, rather bond was set.
